Home at last

How do you make her your girlfriend, William?

At recess, you take her behind a tree and ask her.

He

nuzzled my nose and

asked me to stay

wrapped his arms and smiled

I willingly pretended it was a goodnight hug

not a trap to keep me there

on his mat beside our parents bed

in the warmth of that golden room

covered in dirty paw-prints

(this room is beautiful

I love this room

I mean that)

Yes, he said, just hugging you

a hug all-night-long

and we laugh at his trick

before I tug myself away to bed

Love is so simple here

I'd like a boy to take me behind a tree and

ask me.
